In Times of Hurt, Comes Healing, (10 Verses)

Hurt comes naturally from our emotions as we expose ourselves to anger, sadness or despair.

Recently I have found myself searching for answers to my pain. Suffering that has developed from watching the country implode from racial tensions. Exacerbated by the death of my grandmother at the grand age of ninety-eight. Compounded by the daily strain and anxiety, hurt seems to overwhelm my emotions. I, therefore, sought my healing, and here is what I found.

1.) I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world, you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.” ~ John 16:33

He has overcome the world, all the pain all the suffering vanquished in him. I find great comfort knowing that when you put all your trust in him, you may find peace in all things.

2.) Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. ~ Philippians 4:6

He wants us to pray and ask for healing through him. Knowing that he welcomes our prayers and hears each one, I found I could pray openly to him, for others, even over others for his healing.

3.) Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your wound shall quickly be healed; Your vindication shall go before you, and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. ~ Isaiah 58:8

In the early morning light, when the house is still dark, as I pour into his word. I cannot help but weep. In the pain of loss and anger, many times it comes unexpectedly in the morning hours. Knowing he protects you at all times allows for the healing to begin.

4.) He sets up the lowly on high, and those who mourn are raised to safety. ~ Job 5:11

It is okay for us to mourn, in fact, it is part of the healing process. In our mourning of our hurt, he raises our spirits up and heals our hearts. Through the repetitive tragedies lately, it can be difficult to find comfort.

5.) So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you. ~ 1 Peter 5:6-7

What if you gave up your worries and pain to the Lord? He will exalt you! Wait! So you mean he will raise you up if you abandon your pain?  Wow! What encouragement lies in knowing he will lift us up out of our hurt and suffering.

6.) For the Lord does not reject forever; Though he brings grief, he takes pity, according to the abundance of his mercy ~ Lamentations 3:31-32

He never said we would not suffer, grieve or hurt. However, he promises each one of us that he takes pity on us. It is through his mercy and unending love that we will not suffer forever.

7.) The one who sat on the throne[a] said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Then he said, “Write these words down, for they are trustworthy and true.” ~ Revelation 21:5

That is such good news and comfort. He is trustworthy and through all things, he will make things new. Even though our hearts break, our pain is real; it is through his word that he will make all things new.

8.) So whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come. ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17

It was beautiful to see as my grandmother’s time drew near, she drew closer to him. She made amends and prepared herself for her journey home. I do not know what her faith walk was like during her life. I do know that she has been washed clean and sits at his table at the end, and that is what matters most.

9.) I praise you, Lord, for you raised me up and did not let my enemies rejoice over me. ~ Psalm 30:2

No matter the enemies we may have upon this earth that transgress and hurt us in this life. It is our faith and trust in the Lord that he will protect us, heal us and be our savior. He took all of our hurts and pain upon the cross at Calvary. There is nothing and no one that can bring about a misery that his eternal blood cannot heal.

10.) I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” said the Spirit, “let them find rest from their labors, for their works accompany them.” ~ Revelation 14:13

These will be some of the final words I will say as we lay my grandmother to rest. May she and all those that have gone before her, and those that go after finding true rest in him.

In Scripture, we can find words of comfort and healing no matter what strife we are going through in life. I have found that the more that we press into the word, the more answers he provides. I hope some of these words speak to your heart today as well and starts the process of being made new again. Our country may hurt, we are showing signs of division and anger, through it all; he will see us through. If only we mean the words that we say and do believe when we say “I trust in you.”
