Alpha/Omega by Kutless (Album Review)

Kutless has released a new album by the name of Alpha/Omega. You likely have heard some of the tracks as they have put together a collection of original and cover tracks that they feel are core to the type of worship and rock band they have been for over fifteen years. I had the opportunity to preview the album before its release by Tooth and Nail Records. As a fan of Kutless for many years, I can say this album does not disappoint. From remakes of familiar songs like Strong Tower and great covers of songs like Your Great Name to original tracks never heard before such as Shepherd of My Soul and Gave It All. You likely have heard their newly released track King of My Heart, that you cannot help singing along with as it plays on stations like AirOne and KLove. Alpha/Omega covers many years and talents of what has made Kutless a household name for many years when it comes to worship bands. Is it an album that has more than one hit on it, I think quite possibly. If nothing less it is a great album to turn to if you want to listen to familiar songs sung by the ever so talented Jon Micah Sumrall brings everytime he steps up to the microphone. “We really believe that music can make a difference in people’s lives,” shares Jon Micah Sumrall. “Music is an incredibly powerful tool that can break down walls and allow us to communicate a message of hope to people […]

Out of the Dark and Unfinished

Mandisa is releasing her first album in almost four years. Many times when artists take a break like that their return album lacks. This is not the case with the beloved Mandisa and her recently released album, Out of the Dark. In this album Mandisa allows herself to be vulnerable. Over the past few years, she personally struggled with real life issues like depression, addiction and more. Rather than skirting around the issues, she met them head on in the recording studio. Her powerful voice paired with encouraging lyrics, the album becomes a theme of redemption the listener can relate with. Everyone who knows Mandisa’s music knows her song Overcomer and few know the story behind the song. Mandisa wrote her song “Overcomer” in 2013 to encourage her close friend Kisha, who was battling breast cancer. Mandisa really believed and prayed that God was going to heal her, but when Kisha went to be with Jesus in 2014, Mandisa’s foundation was shaken in a way she never expected. She fell into a deep pit of depression for close to 3 years, shutting out her friends, family and the rest of the world. Mandisa believes if she had kept going down that road she was on, she would not be here today… but God stepped in and lifted her out of that pit by using her close friends to communicate their love for her and God’s love for her. This album is Mandisa’s way of letting her fans into her story – it’s called ‘Out Of […]
