In every city in America you can find dumpster diving. With the economy in shambles over the last few years, need has grown. More homeless people are searching for their next meal. Many cities struggle for a solution. Soup kitchens have become common in the urban core. Yet people still go hungry. Many are children, veterans and the elderly that get ignored. People ignore them, walk past then as if they were not there. We complain about them, yet do little to help. One restaurant owner in Oklahoma had a brilliant idea. Rather than turning a blind eye as many do. They opened their heart to their dumpster diving friend. The owner of P.B. Jams noticed someone  had been going  through their trash. Rather than putting a lock or gate around the dumpster to keep them out. The owner invited them in. Oklahoma City metro business leaves message for dumpster diver Imagine a world where  instead of pretending they are not there. Imagine if we all were compelled to feed them. It may not be practical for every restaurant to open their doors to the hungry. However they could all do better in how much food they waste. This also goes for every household in America. If you are like me the idea of growing your own fruits and vegetables is bountiful. Notice I said the “idea” was bountiful not always the harvest. I grew up on a farm so one would think I had a green thumb. Guess that is why it was a  cattle farm and not a corn field. I mean sure we had a garden, and a greenhouses for a while. But I did not a seem to get many of those traits. Now that I live in the suburbs there is not much space much less manure to have a harvest regularly. I have tried growing everything from broccoli to zucchini even grown fennel and Habanero. Usually the harvest is small considering the time and work put into them. A few years back I planted a fruit tree.. a lemon tree best I knew. After a few years it put out fruit. The fruit was weird-looking for lemons. They were about the size of oranges or small grapefruit. Yellow and sour like lemon but the flesh consistency of an orange. I had saved the tag on the tree and read that it was a Meyer Lemon. Meyer Lemons are hybrids thought to be a cross of a lemon and a Mandarin Orange. Oh and once they start to produce they can produce thousands. Over the past year I have taken my readers through a varied journey. We have traveled from middle earth, to the gridiron and beyond. I have shared stories with the homeless, both pets and people.
