7 Ways of Being a Christian Leader

Christians are thought of as followers not leaders that many times hide in the shadows.

Today there seems to be a great deal of focus on leadership and Christianity. Preachers like Derwin Gray, Andy Stanley and even the great Billy Graham they all have a similar message. Regardless whether they are preaching from the pulpit or at a conference, they all focus on the need for leaders.

The church and Christianity as a whole are under attack and needs leaders to step up and fight. There is a problem though even though we as Christians are natural leaders, many would rather sit in the pews praying for change. We can no longer stand by and let our faith be silenced.

You were made for more than this, you were born to be a leader and here is how I know.

1.) Jesus led his Disciples who in turn led the Church –

We were destined to lead as followers of Christ it is our birthright. Priests and Preachers cannot do this alone they want and need the support of the Church. Everyone remembers the WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) that we wore on our bracelets and clothes.. now it is time to answered that question.

2.) We are the Hands and Feet :

In order to spread the gospel and be the Christians we claim to be we must be the hands and feet of the Church. By being the hands and feet we lead other to Christ through our daily words and actions.

3.) Advisers and leaders:

We are called to be leaders and provide guidance to those coming into the Church. “You guide me by your advice, and then you will lead me to a position of honor.” – Psalm 73:24

4.) We are called to be leaders:

Called to lead others and provide advice to others along their spiritual walk. As the elders in the church lead the church body so do we lead each other. “Elders who provide effective leadership must be counted worthy of double honor” – 1 Timothy 5:17

5.) We are each gifted :

We each are embodied with certain gifts, there are gifts of teaching, healing, helps, leadership and more. We must seek and discover our spiritual gifts and then develop them to become a member of the body. ” Now you are Christ’s body and each of you a member of it. And God has placed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers then miracles, gifts of healing, helps, gifts of leadership, different kinds of tongues.” 1 Corinthians 12:27-28

6.) Fellowship turns to leadership :

We strive to have friends throughout our lives, many of which we will break bread with. The fellowship of men becomes teaching and in turn leading. Whether we lead our family, friends, neighbors or community we do so with fellowship and sharing. “They were devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and prayer.” Acts 2:42

7.) Silently we lead with Strength :

We as Christians are baptized by the Holy Spirit and seek the Grace of God in our lives. With His hand over us and His power upon us we are blessed with the strength of his word. With this strength we are provided the ability to lead in not only our words but our actions. “Finally, be strengthened in the Lord and in the strength of his power.” – Ephesians 6:10

With the strength and blessing provided in the Bible along with the fellowship of other men we as Christians are gifted with the opportunity to lead. As we lead and mentor one another “as iron sharpens iron, so a person sharpens his friend” so may we lead and grow the Church.
