Road back to the Abbey

The Road to the Abbey is full of great memories. It’s amazing how life takes some twists and turns taking you back to where you used to be. This past weekend I took a trip to Fort Mills, South Carolina with my wife. She was going to attend a women’s conference.  I was taking time for a much-needed  break away. Having some time to reflect and finish my college degree that I wrap up next week. During my visit I decided to make a short road trip to my Alma Mater, Belmont Abbey which I attended back in 1990- 1992 in Belmont North Carolina. While visiting I began to realize that even though we’re on separate paths and never really know where our destination is, life still comes full circle. As I walked around the campus and write this,  I am amazed at the transformation. Over the past 25 years, new buildings went up around campus. What used to be just an empty field now had soccer bleachers and a baseball diamond. While I was there on this journey I had time to do some self-reflection. Beginning to realize that the last 25 years that I thought were wasted we’re actually just part of a bigger journey. I would not be the person that I am today if I hadn’t made mistakes and decisions over the last few decades. As I wrap up my last semester in college this week and get ready for my graduation 25 years later. I can look back with pride in that although I may not have taken the path others […]

How to leave your worries at the comfort cross.

How to leave your worries at the comfort cross. We all need a reminder at times to be more prayerful.  Many of us spend our days worrying, when we can leave our worries at the comfort cross. Recently I came across a creative person with an Etsy shop. I have seen Etsy shops, even have the app on my phone. Yet there was always hesitancy to invest in others dreams. I found one item that really was creative and thoughtfully made. The Comfort Cross by Perfectly Loved Creations was that one that caught my eye. After several conversations with the artist who was more than patient with me. I decided to take a gamble and place an order of crosses as gifts. I ordered four crosses in total. One for my father-in-laws upcoming baptism. One for my mother-in-laws birthday. One for my bride and even one for myself. Each cross was detailed with their individual colors and scriptures. Even with all the details, I was still a bit nervous. When I received the crosses as promised and on time. I could not wait to open them, I had to be discrete as three of them were the gifts. They were beautiful, each with a handwritten note from their creator. Each piece that I had made was not only crafted with love, but prayed over for the person receiving it. Sharing God’s love through handmade, customized comfort crosses. Click To Tweet I gave my wife hers on Easter, that way I could openly use my own as well. A couple of days […]

Fear is one Mean Son of a …

Many people talk about fighting their fears, yet they invite it into their lives like they are best friends. Personally, I have talked a good game when it comes to fear. I mean come on… when I fell and hurt myself mountain climbing, I went right back and climbed a bigger mountain the next year. When I was learning to ride a bike, I never gave up nor would I use training wheels. Bruised and broken fear would not get the best of me. As a kid I used to stand up to any challenge (not the brightest move at times). Whether it meant jumping off rooftops, surfing on top of cars, whatever the challenge I was game. I used to play with vermin that would make many people squirm. A game of chicken, or rugby I was I was first in line. Even though often the last to be picked. You see when we are younger, sure fear exists. We just don’t give it space in our minds. Fear is one mean son-uv-a … as when we get older. We grow up and those stories that your mom used to tell you to keep you from doing something. Well, they start to come true and have real meaning. Now roller coasters that used to be a blast are terrifying. You really do pack a extra clean pair of underwear just in case. While the fear of the spanking and ‘the wait until your dad gets home’ was usually ten times worse than the actual […]
