Chasing Lions and Other 500 Lb Dreams

Are you a dreamer,  I hope you are or you are missing out on much of God’s glory. Throughout the Bible there are dreamers. Some prophesied over the lives of others while others made their own dreams a reality. When is the last time you chased down your BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) like it was a 500 Lb lion? Perhaps your dreams are more like cute lion cubs than ferocious lions. If that is the case your dream is not big enough. God-sized dreams are what our lives are made to chase after. Chase them deep into the cold pits, until we conquer them. Lion Chasers don’t run away from what they’re afraid of, they run to the roar. @markbatterson Click To Tweet In order for God to work through us and make our dreams a reality, we need to show up and show off. Talking about a dream but taking no action is just hot air, the Internet is full of that these days. Unless your dream scares you and is a God-sized dream, then it is just a wish, not a dream. I have been a fan of Mark Batterson since I read the Circle Maker a year or so ago. In fact, I just wrapped up my second round of his forty-day devotional  online of his book Draw the Circle: The 40 Day Prayer Challenge. I have also read If, and am waiting on Wild Goose Chase.  I preparing to read All In. Chase the Lion: If Your Dream Doesn’t Scare You, It’s […]

Hacksaw Ridge, A Gripping Hero’s Tale of Courage

WWII is a war that was full of heroes that fought bravely for our country. One such hero is Desmond Doss, who fought defending our country and his beliefs without firing a shot. Mel Gibson’s latest film directive Hacksaw Ridge is the gripping true story of an unsung hero of the war. Desmond Doss was declared to be a conscientious objector as he, by abiding by his faith refused to touch a gun on the pretext of it making him a murderer or leading him in the direction of such a terrible and mortal sin. Shame, court marshal and regular beatings by his fellow soldiers could not make him waver. Insistent on serving as others had before him, he fought his way to the battlefield. “Others are taking a life, I’ll be saving it” #hacksawridge @hacksawridge Click To Tweet As a medic on the field, he could do God’s will by saving lives rather than taking them. Against the will of the United States Army, Doss was granted the opportunity to serve his country as his right to serve as well as to object both are given by the Constitution. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. For I am with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 Even with God’s grace, the feats that follow are at the very least a miracle. Desmond and his fellow soldiers took to battle against an unbeatable force of the Japanese. Many of his comrades died on the field that day, as they retreated outmatched, Desmond stayed behind […]

Minimalist Rejoice, Recycled Firefighter Wallet Worthy to Carry

In the everyday carry community, less is more. Based on the idea of being prepared, but not burdened down. I recently had the opportunity to receive a new wallet that I gladly have added to my carry collection. Recycled Firefighter wallets are, well just what they sound like. A minimalist wallet made out of recycled decommissioned firehose, yet they are so much more. I had been following them on Instagram for a while, and their products intrigued me. How would a firehose made into a wallet be useful? I wondered and had to find out for myself. I reached out to the creator of the Recycled Firefighter wallets Jake, and he sent me one to try out. When I received it, I could tell even by simply the packaging that they stood behind their brand. Inside the stamped brown envelope I found a camouflage Sergeant’s wallet crafted out of a firehose as well as a bright orange one. Okay, I know what your thinking, really a firehose? Exactly and simply put it is awesome. Gone were the days of a bulky wallet in my back pocket. No more lower back pain or a sore bum because of the unnecessary bulk. I no longer felt compelled to carry unnecessary credit cards (should not carry any but that is a whole other blog post series). That and there is only room for about four to six credit cards, or my case three cards and two id’s (#edc always carry two id’s). There is an elastic strap on […]
