Sharpening Iron to Live Second

Chew Chew Food Co. Food Truck

I am a fan of food trucks. They come in all shapes, sizes and delicacies. A food truck is a flavorful adventure on  wheels. The food you get on these mobile diners is full of creativity and dreams. Where else can a culinary artisan serve a different public every day without the expense of brick and mortar. Yesterday was an unusual day where I did not have my normal leftovers for lunch. Being in a city that has food trucks of all delicacies variety is often available.  I work in an area of town where most days a truck or two is nearby. Today was one such day. I looked up the JaxTruckies Facebook page to see where the trucks were for the day. A truck by the name of Chew Chew Food Co. was my featured dining establishment on wheels. I walked over a block to check them out. Upon arrival the truck parked alongside the empty street of EverBank Plaza was a cargo truck with a reddish paint job. I walked up to the window, curbside and perused the menu for the day on the chalkboard. Unique items like lobster corn dogs, Korean BBQ ShortRib Melts, Carnitas Burritos and more. This was not your average greasy diner on wheels. After a brief discussion with the gentleman in the window I settled for the General Tso’s Chicken Tacos. Sounded unusual enough with a flavor of safety. Where else will you find crispy chicken breast tossed in a house made General Tso’s sauce. Accompanied by Sesame […]

Baltimore Riots: Streets on Fire, We are the Water

Normally I would not write about events like what is happening with the Baltimore riots. Then again nothing is really normal when you see your nation crumble. It has become a common call out to the National Guard. Just this week the request is being made in my own city. I look back and wonder how things have gotten this bad. Since when is looting and violence the answer in a once just world? The media has done it’s best to make this a black on white phenomenon.  Yet when you look close it really never was.  Sure there are black lives that have been lost. Yes those lives do matter. But the enemy is not who it appears. Business and homeowners no longer feel safe. Guns and ammo have flown off the shelves. All in preparation for the New World Order. Curfews imposed, surveillance increased.  America once stood as the home of the brave has been brought to her knees. A country founded on faith and freedom has been silenced. Morals and values have stepped aside for debauchery and sin. Sex, drugs, violence and crime have become so common, they are no longer breaking news. We drive the nails into the cross as well as our own coffins as we turn a blind eye. Instead of standing up for what is right and good. Many would rather hide behind locked doors in their own neighborhoods. Whether it’s the Baltimore riots,  or Ferguson, or your own town. Evil has risen and leveraged itself against us. We cannot […]

High School Reunion

Another High School Reunion is upon me and this time well… A couple of months ago I got an invite to my high school reunion. First there was the Facebook announcement of the tentative dates. Then came the official dates and then  the agenda… First of all… out of all the people who I hang out with from high school…oh that’s right beyond the occasional awkward bumping into someone we don’t stay in touch. We were probably not greatest of  friends then so probably would not be now either. Don’t get me wrong I have fond memories of high school. Being on the swim team, wrestling team. Some not so fond, involving tunnels, wrecking cars, fights and more but I digress. Either way we all went our separate ways on  graduation day. Many of us moved away or just grew apart. Many went straight to college,  got their degrees and work at their dream job. Okay maybe only some of you, the rest are still playing the games. But that is really not much different from how it was in high school. We all wore masks and pretended to be friends. The last reunion was a short five years ago. Not much has changed that has not already been shared on Facebook. It would be just as an  uncomfortable experience now as it was then. The same cliques would hang out together. Certain people will be the life of the party. Others will quietly sneak out early. Nothing has really changed besides marriages, divorces, wrinkles and kids. I won’t  be […]
